PEACHES IN PITT

Growing up as we would sit around the dinner table and share a meal together my mom would ask us each to share the “peach and pit” of our day. The peach being something sweet that made us happy- our favorite part of the day- and the pit being something not so sweet -our least favorite part of the day. It gave us a chance to share the highs and lows of our day and provided insight into what the other members of our family were experiencing. When I was 19 and serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I began to share that tradition with other missionaries I served around beginning at the training center in Mexico. It was there that I began to see that when peach pits are planted, they eventually result in more peaches. That was a valuable lesson for me and for those that I shared it with in Mexico and then throughout my mission in Tennessee. It’s like my mom always says, “Out of something bad comes something good.”

I recorded my peaches, pits and lessons learned in a blog during my 18 months in Knoxville Tennessee and eventually printed that blog into a book that I will treasure forever. I’m writing this blog for the same purpose to record the peaches, pits and lessons learned as Jaden and I spend the next two years building the next chapter of our life in Pittsburgh, PA while he goes to graduate school at Carnegie Mellon University. The fact that I can call the blog and eventually my memory book “Peaches in Pitt” is just too good to pass up. And if anyone besides my mom reads it along the way and is inspired to find their own peaches and plant their own pits then that is even better.
