A Man Called Zach
This week was a crazy week of school but we managed to pull away long enough to attempt the movie theater for the second time with Zach and Jenna. This time we actually got in and the sound was working so I want to give more of a backstory as to why we wanted to see this movie so bad. About 9 months ago I had pulled up my internet browser and saw a local news article about Tom Hanks crashing a bridal photoshoot at a Pittsburgh church downtown. I was curious so I clicked on it and saw that Tom was filming a movie here in Pittsburgh and had been walking downtown and came upon a bridal photoshoot and photobombed in the back. I immediately looked up what movie they were filming and saw that it was called A Man Called Otto and was based off of a Swedish film and novel by Frederick Backman. I also saw applications to be extras in the film. I copied the link and sent it in our friends group text and told them that if all 8 of us applied one of us had to get in and sure enough one of us did. Zach! We all say it was his beard that got him the part, that and his turquoise car. After a day of filming he actually was in the same room as Tom Hanks who looked up made eye contact and said "What time does the ship leave? La la la la la!" Right as Zach was about to respond he looked back down at his script. Zach said it was part of his vocal exercises we love hearing him tell the story. In fact I asked that Zach sign my copy of the book A Man Called Otto and specifically write "what time does the ship leave?"
And if you haven't seen the movie I recommend reading the book before to give you a little bit of a heads up on the tone and theme of the movie so you aren't blindsided by a darker angle that permeates throughout it. I think overall it is such a sweet heartwarming film that just makes you want to hug your loved ones close and serve your neighbor. We thoroughly loved it and thought Zach gave a stellar performance during the 1.5 seconds we saw him walking across a bridge!
So many fun and random memories of our time in PA.
